During the first few lockdowns of the pandemic, the game Animal Crossing gained huge popularity. Animal Crossing captured people’s imaginations, and became one of few major games to gain a female majority following, with females making up 56% of players.
While most games capture more male attention, Animal Crossing showed that the female market for gaming is growing fast. With this in mind, the development team behind “My Neighbor Alice” decided to design a game that catered to female gamers.
My Neighbor Alice is a multiplayer builder game where players can collect and build items and meet new friends. It’s inspired by games like Animal Crossing, bringing together a gameplay experience with an ecosystem that allows players to collect items in the form of NFTs (Non-Fungible-Tokens). Unlike other games though, players may not notice that they’re dealing with an NFT.
Developed by Antler interactive, a studio known for its gaming innovations My Neighbor Alice will eventually be governed by the players themselves as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
From a technical point of view, the game runs on top of the Chromia blockchain. Chromia is a platform for dApps solving the scalability problem by creating a side chain for each dApp. On the Chromia platform, developers can use familiar development workflows to develop decentralized apps, reducing the need for large upfront investments.
The Chromia blockchain provides players with an in-game experience that isn’t impacted by scalability problems or delays and players may not even realize that they’re dealing with a blockchain game.
Alice’s world is a large island complex located in the Lummelunda archipelago. 6 key islands build the landscape in which players move around:
- Snowflake island: full of ice, snow, and ice sculptures of mysterious origin
- Medieval Pains: an island full of low vegetation and stonework.
- Nature’s rest: an island that’s overgrown by dense forest, creating a moody atmosphere
- Lummestad: the only town in the game is small and bustling, full of shops where players can buy items. Most events take place here.
- Sandy coast: as the name suggests, an island full of sand. Great for players that love the coast.
- Submerged islands: the islands for the adventurous, as pirates stalk the submerged islands on their hunt for treasures.
It’s a space where animals and humans live peacefully together, where they make friends and work on projects. Anyone can join the neighborhood, buy land, perform activities like fishing, beekeeping, or help Alice with her duties.
Players can buy their own piece of land and start decorating it using in-game items that can be anything from vegetation to furniture, buildings, and even animals (even though an animal might not count as “decoration”). Apart from building their own space, players can also participate in competitions or quests to progress.
The progression system is dynamic, and players are rewarded for being good citizens. In-game, each player is represented by their Avatar through which they can communicate with others.
Antler Interactive released a first MVP (minimum viable product) in 2020, so if you want to give it a go, you can get started with My neighbor Alice today.
The currency used inside of the game is the ALICE token, which is also mirrored by an ERC20 token outside of the ecosystem. Players can use ALICE to play, invest and be part of the game. Currently, ALICE enables the purchase of items, specific quests, and special skills. In the future, ALICE tokens will also play a part in the governance of the game.
Players can also send ALICE in chats to their fellow players. If players want to create some income with their in-game land, they can charge visitors fees like admission to a museum and can even rent out their digital house to other players.
With a strong focus on being approachable for the non-crypto gaming community, My neighbor Alice drives blockchain adoption by making the technology in the back-end nearly invisible for the players while still retaining all the benefits that come with its use. We’re looking forward to seeing how Antler Interactive will combine its AR visionary skills with this game and the principles of decentralization.
ALICE is now trading on Bitcoin.com Exchange with USDT and BTC pairs.
