We’ve evolved: here’s why.
Today, money is more diverse. Whereas digital payments once meant using bank accounts and centralized currencies, we now have the chance to change that.
Decentralized digital currencies like Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Core make it possible to send global payments peer-to-peer. In other words, it’s just you and the other person: no bank fees, no fraud risk, and no delays.
Our goal is to encourage more people to understand and access this fairer financial system, and we think the experience they have with our brand can help make it happen.
Roger Ver, our CEO, summarizes: “The rebrand is a bold new chapter for Bitcoin.com. It’s an invitation to everyone out there: let our products show you how economic freedom can empower you.”
Extending a (rebranded) helping hand
For Bitcoin to be accessible to everyone, first and foremost, it needs to be usable as a currency. Roger highlights: “We need to be able to actually use our money to pay for groceries, flight tickets, and anything else. If we can’t, it’s pointless.”
This sentiment underpins everything we do at Bitcoin.com, and it’s why we choose to support Bitcoin Cash, which is becoming increasingly usable as a global digital currency for everyone.
Over the years, we’ve built various different tools and products that help you use Bitcoin as real-world money. Likewise, we’ve supported businesses looking to accept Bitcoin payments from customers, and we’ve worked alongside developers who build apps that make Bitcoin more useful.
But, because our efforts were spent doing all that, we didn’t always give our branding the attention it needed. In short, the way we communicated was often too technical and our color palette didn’t make for the best user experience.
The rebrand corrects this. Andrew Todd, our Head of Design, explains: “Reimagining our brand, we took a step back and identified our values. With universal accessibility being our most important value, we set out to create a color palette that would not only resonate with people and help create a lasting identity, but would work seamlessly across devices, in different environments, and for people with visual impairments.”
A logo with a purpose
The new Bitcoin.com logo—a vibrant combination of cool green-tone blocks and vivid text—is the beating heart of the redesign, with its color palette now pulsing through many of our products.
Sharing the thought process behind it, Andrew says: “Our new logo also exemplifies accessibility. It consists of bold and legible ‘Bitcoin.com’ logotype paired with a clean grid of blocks, which is representative of the intended scalable nature of Bitcoin blocks themselves.”
He continues: “Color-wise, we have the brightest green moving in an upward-right trajectory, showing constant growth. This is finished by tight kerning of the Bitcoin.com lettering, reinforcing the solidity of our brand.”
Previously, some new users would confuse Bitcoin.com as being Bitcoin itself. As such, we also hope our new logo, with its own distinctive identity, helps to clarify that we’re a company—not a digital currency.
A voice that fits FinTech
As we mentioned earlier, we want to help more and more people understand how decentralized digital currencies can benefit them.
Beneath the surface, Bitcoin is powered by complex blockchain technology. This is still a new phenomena to most of the world’s population, as is the very idea of a peer-to-peer global currency that no trusted third party controls.
However, our users don’t need to focus on all these complex technical details. All they need is a simple explanation of how Bitcoin benefits them and how to get started with the products we build.
The rebrand aims to bring this outlook to life. To aid accessibility, the new Bitcoin.com brand voice focuses on making complex Bitcoin concepts simpler through a user-friendly Getting Started section, as well as by communicating our products in a more relatable way.
Polishing to perfection
As with any work of art, our rebrand is a work in progress. Over time, we’ll extend it to every corner of our website as we continue to build and refine products that support a fairer financial system.
Rest assured though: this won’t affect any of the products or services we already provide. You can continue using them as usual!
